ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform record and report the results of four basic laboratory procedures related to the determination of concrete compressive and flexural strength.

Scope & Knowledge

This class is recommended for laboratory technicians who are currently performing the tests listed below. Working knowledge of the following ASTM standards is required.

C617 Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens

C1231 Un-bonded Caps for Concrete Cylinders

C39 Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens

C78 Flexural Strength of Concrete (Using Simple Beam with Third-Point Loading)

Requirements

ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

  1. A passing Grade on the ACI written examination
  2. Successful completion of the ACI performance examination

Written examination is closed-book and consists of approximately 40 multiple choice questions. A minimum overall score of 70% and at least 60% correct on each standard is required to pass the written exam.

The performance is "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of all the required ASTM Standards.

Pre-Requisites

  1. A MINIMUM OF ONE YEAR APPROVED WORK EXPERIENCE OR COMBINATION OF WORK AND EDUCATION.

  2. THE VA CHAPTER STRONGLY URGES THAT APPLICANTS HAVE ACI FIELD TESTING TECHNICIAN GRADE I CERTIFICATION AND/OR DIRECT HANDS ON EXPERIENCE IN CONCRETE LABORATORY SETTING PRIOR TO ATTENDING THIS CLASS AND SITTING FOR THE CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS.
